Rütti Carl - Organ (b. 1949)

Biography of Rütti Carl:

Born in Fribourg in 1949, Carl Rütti grew up in Zug. He took piano lessons with Cécile Hux, and lessons in organ, theory and Gregorian chorale from Fr Norbert Hegner at the Engelberg Monastery School. After leaving school, he studied at the Zurich Conservatory: piano with Sava Savoff and organ with Erich Vollenwyder. He took his concert diploma on both instruments in 1975. Rütti studied in London in 1976, taking piano lessons with Kendall Taylor and organ lessons with Richard Latham. His experience of the English choral tradition flowed into his composing. In 1981 works of his were recorded for radio by the BBC Singers. Since then he has worked closely with the Cambridge Voices, the BBC Symphony Chorus, the Norwich Escorial etc. In 1999 a work of his was performed at the Proms in London, and at Christmas in 2000/2002/2004/2006 and 2011 one of his carols was broadcast across the world from King’s College Chapel in Cambridge. In 2008 his Requiem for choir and orchestra was given its world première in Winchester Cathedral by the London Bach Choir. In 2005 he was given a Recognition Award by Canton Zug. Several CDs of his music have been released by Naxos, ASV, Guild and Herald. Carl Rütti lives in Zug, teaches the piano at the Zurich Conservatory, is organist in Oberägeri and performs as both a pianist and as an organist.
