Release Date:

James Southall began playing the organ when he was sixteen and was awarded a diploma of the Associate of the Royal College of Organists, winning most of the major prizes. After having completed his education in Jersey, he spent a year studying the organ with Paul Hale and Philip Rushforth at Southwell Minster before taking up the organ scholarship at Queens’ College, Cambridge in 2001. Now in the final year of his music degree, James is Senior Organ Scholar and has inherited responsibility for the chapel choir from Sam Hayes. James is now a pupil of David Sanger and has given many solo and concerto performances. A distinguished cellist, James was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and has performed under some of the world’s greatest conductors, such as Sir Andrew Davis and Yan Pascal Tortelier. James was principal cellist in the University First Orchestra and delights in playing chamber music with his friends. He is also in much demand as a pianist and accompanist and has given solo and duet performances in the Cheltenham and Cambridge International Festivals. Away from the musical scene, James is an enthusiastic snowboarder and a keen footballer who has captained the renowned Queens’ Chapel Choir Football Team!
