Biography of casalQUARTETT Zurich:
"Incredibly well-balanced, perfect and elegant playing. One has to look far afield to find such beautifully fused sound." The STRAD, New York, November 2003 - “This definitely reinforces the ensemble’s reputation as ranking among the best quartets in the country.“ Neue Zürcher Zeitung 25 March 2005 / Today the German-Swiss casalQUARTETT, which was founded in 1995, belongs to the outstanding quartets in German-speaking countries. Their ability for creativity and emotionality, the technical brilliance of the four musicians, as well as the high regard for careful programme planning render the cQ unmistakable. In 1999, the cQ completed their diploma quartet studies with the Carmina-Quartett (Winterthur-Zurich), and in 2002 with the Alban Berg Quartett (Cologne), both with distinction.
Nowadays the cQ performs worldwide, takes part in all the important concert series and plays at renowned festivals, among others with Martha Argerich, Clemens Hagen, Nikolaj Znaider, Christoph Prégardien, Giora Feidman, Benjamin Schmid, Maurice Steger, Julia Fischer, Régis Pasquier and others. In 2006, the casalQUARTETT, together with the Hagen, Carmina, Petersen, the Quatuor Mosaique and the Leipziger Streichquartett, will perform all of the Mozart quartets several times. In 2001, the cQ successfully founded the “Boswiler Sommer” in Switzerland, a 10-day festival, which today ranks among the best classical festivals in Switzerland. They play with passion, but without heated pathos, with feeling, but without woolly sentiment. Their sound is beautifully homogeneous, nevertheless offering the detectable presence of individual colours, which balances the nuances with a great artistic sense. No tone is ignored; they are always vividly shaped, at the same time sharpening the mere agreeableness of the lines towards the characteristic profile. This fascinates in a double sense: both as a result of the artistic refinement and the strong impression it has on our heart and mind.
