Biography of The Cambridge Baroque Camerata:
The Cambridge Baroque Camerata was founded by its director, the organist and harpsichordist Jonathan Hellyer Jones, to promote the performance on period instruments of the chamber and orchestral works of the 17th and 18th centuries. The Camerata consists of a nucleus of Cambridge musicians who are well-versed in baroque techniques, and the ensemble is expanded according to requirements, with experienced players from London and elsewhere, many of whom have Cambridge connections. Since its début in Cambridge in 1984, the Camerata has given both chamber and orchestral concerts on numerous tours in the UK, France and Mexico. It has performed on radio and TV and has recorded six CDs, including J S Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos and St Mark Passion – the latter with the choir of Gonville & Caius College, as part of a long-standing series of collaborations.
