Biography of Williams Huw:

Sub-Organist and Assistant Director of Music at St Paul's Cathedral since 1998, Huw Williams works daily with the world-famous cathedral choir. He has played for significant events including the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, the Queen Mother's 100th Birthday Service and the Remembrance Service for the victims of the 9/11 terrorism, broadcast live on Television around the world. His accompaniment of the choir in recordings on the Hyperion label, and particularly on the last five CDs in the Psalms from St Paul's series, has received critical acclaim. He was responsible for the collation and preparation of a booklet called Music at St Paul's. His first solo recording Christmas Organ Music from St Paul’s was released on the Priory record label. This, his second solo CD, is the last solo recording of the St Paul’s organ before the Manders restoration and refurbishment of 2006. He recently featured in a documentary on S4C (Welsh Television) about his life as an organist at St Paul’s cathedral. Born in 1971 in Swansea, South Wales, Huw became Organ Scholar at Christ's College, Cambridge and graduated with a Music Degree in June 1992. He later studied at the Royal Academy of Music where he gained a MMus and a Diploma in Advanced Studies. He studied in Holland with Piet Kee and was awarded scholarships by the Countess of Munster Musical and Ian Fleming Charitable trusts. In 1995 he was appointed Assistant Organist to Roy Massey at Hereford Cathedral, where he made several recordings and broadcasts with the Cathedral Choir. At Hereford he was closely involved with the famous Three Choirs Festival, the Hereford Choral Society and was also the conductor of the Hereford Chamber Choir. He has performed as an organ soloist in Canada and USA and many parts of Europe. He was invited to play in the opening series of a new British organ in Peachtree Rd Methodist Church, Atlanta in 2003. Recent recitals include concerts in Canterbury and St George’s Chapel, Windsor, St Thomas Church, New York, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Paris and in various venues in Holland. In addition to giving regular recitals throughout the UK he has adjudicated twice at the National Eisteddfod in Wales. He has also directed the Ludgate Singers on a CD of hymns and composed and arranged pieces, many of which have been performed at St Paul’s. He is closely involved in a national research project The value of cathedral music. He was awarded the Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in recognition of his work at Hereford and St Paul’s Cathedrals.
