Biography of Szmytka Elzbieta:
The Polish soprano Elzbieta Szmytka, born in 1956, studied with Helena Lazarska in Krakow. After her operatic debut there as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro a distinguished career set in that led her to all great opera houses in the entire world. She regularly performs in Brussels, Vienna, Geneva, Amsterdam, Paris, Buenos Aires and Berlin and is a frequent guest of important music festivals – Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence, Glyndebourne – and collaborates with famous conductors in the concert hall as in the opera, among others with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Andrew Davis, Sir Neville Marriner and Sylvain Cambreling. Her repertoire comprises numerous roles in operas by Mozart (Susanna / Pamina / Despina / Konstanze / Vitellia / Elettra / Donna Anna / Ilia), Verdi (Oscar / Nanetta / Gilda / Violetta) and Richard Strauss (Zerbinetta / Sophie / voice of the falcon). Her numerous CDs are predominantly devoted to the music of Mozart and Polish composers (amongst them Chopin and Szymanowski).
