Wiesli Andrea - Piano

Biography of Wiesli Andrea:

The musical language of this young pianist touches all the senses and is able to draw an incredible fullness of sound and beauty from the keys of her instrument’. (Zuger Presse) The present CD is the debut album of the young Swiss pianist Andrea Wiesli. She spent her student years largely in her home country, where she studied first with Yukio Oya, and then with Konstantin Scherbakov at the Zurich Music Academy, where she was awarded her teaching and concert diplomas with distinction. She won various competitions while still a student (including a First Prize at the Duttweiler-Hug Competition and the Study Prize of the Kiefer-Hablitzel Foundation). She gained further encouragement from master-classes with Paul Badura-Skoda, Rudolf Buchbinder, Christian Favre and Robert Levin. Andrea Wiesli gave solo performances with the Arcata Chamber Orchestra of Stuttgart at the European Music Festival 2006 and with the Collegium Musicum of St Gall at the International Festival of Lake Constance. Concert tours have taken her to the renowned Melba Hall in Melbourne and to the Lima Chamber Music Festival. Andrea Wiesli’s active concert career of recent years has made a name for her as an innovative, versatile musician and has prompted the interest of numerous foundations and organisations who have then supported her in her work. Besides the usual concert repertoire, she is interested in works by hitherto little-regarded composers such as the Swiss Hans Huber or the German composer Heinrich von Herzogenberg. In the spring of 2011 she was elected onto the board of the International Herzogenberg Society. Andrea Wiesli’s music-making in the piano trio formation is particularly important to her. Together with Noëlle Grüebler (violin) and Jonas Kreienbühl (cello) she belongs to the prize-winning Trio Fontane, which is supported by both the Migros Kulturprozent and the Thiébaud-Frey Foundation and regularly gives concerts. Andrea Wiesli is also active as a music historian. Her book on Basle music life in the fin-de-siècle was published in 2010 by Schwabe Verlag. She is furthermore currently working on her doctorate for the University of Zurich on the Schubert transcriptions of Franz Liszt.
