Biography of Haag Ivo:
The two pianists Adrienne Soós and Ivo Haag have been a firmly-established piano duo for more than 15 years, and have become one of the leading chamber music ensembles in Switzerland. Their playing is characterised by their soloistic presence, whilst at the same time demonstrating a penetration of chamber music, as well as brilliance and creative musical power. The Luzerner Zeitung, a Lucerne newspaper, wrote: “The art of interpretation instead of a spectacle of virtuosi”. With the same intensity they cultivate playing on two pianos as well as playing on one instrument four hands. In addition, there are regular performances with orchestras, and a cooperation with singers and instrumentalists, who they occasionally extend their duo with. They have made a name for themselves with their artistically sophisticated and distinct programme arrangement, which includes their standard repertoire as well as interesting works or premieres that have wrongly been forgotten. In the past years they have thus revived a rich treasure of almost forgotten works in concerts and recorded them on CD, concentrating at the same time primarily on music of the early 20th century and the early romantic period. They also extend their repertoire for piano duets by regularly commissioning compositions to renowned composers. They have already performed concerts at the Lucerne Festival (summer and piano), the Schubertiade Feldkirch and the Musiktage Mondsee (artistic director: András Schiff), just to name a few. The Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Symphonic Orchestra St. Gallen, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Bern, the Camerata Zurich and many others have invited them as soloists, and brought them together with the conductors Jac van Steen, Peter Hirsch, Howard Griffiths, Olaf Henzold, Saulius Sondeckis, Simon Gaudenz, Graziella Contratto and Marc Kissóczy, Jan Schultsz and others. They have published CDs with mdg Dabringhaus and Grimm, Hungaroton, Musiques Suisses and pan classics. This CD is their first cooperation with the Guild Label. Their recording of „Danse de la peur“ with the Musikkollegium Winterthur under the baton of Jac van Steen was made CD of the month by classics today France, and the landmark of the month by the Swiss magazine „Musik & Theater“. The Duo Soós-Haag has commissioned compositions to Rudolf Kelterborn, Michel Roth, Dieter Ammann and Krzysztof Meyer. These works have been released by important music publishing houses such as Bärenreiter, Tre Media Musikverlag (Karlsruhe), Editio Musica Budapest, PWM Edition (Crakow) and the Schweizer Musikedition The duo formed during their mutual years of studies of the two pianists at the Liszt Academy of Music Budapest in the classes of Péter Solymos (piano) and Ferenc Rados (chamber music). They had important impulses from György Kurtág and András Schiff. The native-born Hungarian Adrienne Soós began her studies at the Béla-Bartók-Conservatory in her hometown of Budapest and completed them with Tibor Hazay at the Musikhochschule Freiburg (im Breisgau). Ivo Haag also studied at the Musikhochschule Zurich (among other subjects lieder interpretation with Irwin Gage) and with the Arrau-pupil Edith Fischer.
