Knights Andrew - Oboe

Biography of Knights Andrew:

On completion of his course at the Royal College of Music, Andrew Knights won a French Government Scholarship to study in Paris with Pierre Pierlot. In 1978 he was made Greater London Arts Young Musician of the Year and in 1979 was a prize winner in the Leeds Instrumental Competition. Following these awards he received many solo engagements with orchestras in England, Europe and South America and as a recitalist in many English music clubs. In 1981 he won a scholarship from the Karajan Foundation to study in Berlin where he was often invited to play with the Philharmonic Orchestra. Later that year he was also a prize winner in the Prague International Oboe Competition. In 1983 he joined the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. After some years he left to become a guest principal with many orchestras including the English Chamber Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra and Lyon Opera. He was a soloist with the BBC Concert Orchestra in the Queen Mother's 90th birthday festivities and played for an audience of 50 million through the BBC's World Service and Radio 2. Since 1991 he has been Principal Oboe of the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, with whom he has played concerti by Bach, Marcello and Richard Strauss.
